When You Are Not Hungry

When you are not hungry, you assume others aren’t either.  When you are not hungry, you will not make an eating plan.  When you are not hungry, you don’t care what others around you eat.  When you are not hungry you’ll snack on things without nutritional value, and wonder why you ate it.  These things you do when you are not hungry.

When you know you need food, you will plan your meals, and eat on a schedule.  When you know you need food, you will recognize that the people around you have the same need.  When you know you need food, you choose your foods and suggest foods to those around you.  When you know you need food, you consume what you need.

When you are hungry you sit with other hungry people to eat.  When you are hungry you eat whatever is in front of you, and you clean your plate.  When you are hungry, you realize what hunger feels like and begin to identify with others around you who also suffer hunger pangs.  When you are hungry, you seek out the most satisfying meals and fill yourself full.  These things you do when you are hungry.

foodWhen you are not hungry for spiritual food, it doesn’t matter who your company is, you don’t plan to be picky about the fare.  When you are not hungry for spiritual food, you won’t make “eating” a life priority.  When you are not spiritually hungry, you will taste a little of this, and a little of that–just enough to have a conversation with another spiritual being about their menu.  When you are not spiritually hungry, all roads lead to God until you find out they don’t.

When you know you need to feed your spirit, you begin to seek out truth.  When you know you need to grow spiritually, you will find others on the same quest and journey with them.  When you know you need spiritual nutrition, you will choose your food carefully, and regularly.  When you know you need spiritual food, you make a plan to continue to eat.

When you are spiritually hungry, you consume all that you can of Truth, because you know there are hungry people around you who need to be fed too, and you need to feed them.  When you are spiritually hungry, you pass on trite phrases, and soothing words, and dive deeply into repentance, and transformation.  When you are spiritually hungry, you feed others with the same passion you eat with.  When you are spiritually hungry, you leave the many paths, to journey the one.  When you are spiritually hungry, only one Truth satisfies, and you are not satisfied until everyone around you knows that One.

John 14:6

6 Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.

John 6:35

35 Then Jesus declared, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.
